The Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA) has become the first European museum to tokenize a piece of art, giving savvy art investors the chance to co-own part of a million-euro painting.
Carnaval de Binche, a masterpiece by Belgian artist James Ensor, is being tokenized with the help of blockchain companies Rubey and Tokeny, using a compliant ERC-3643-based security token, a standard for permissioned tokens.
Traditionally dominated by affluent connoisseurs, the KMSKA is aiming to democratise art, allowing anyone to gain fractional ownership of the work, starting from just as little as 150 euros (US$158).
