How many Australians were employed this month?

The national unemployment rate remained steady at 3.9% for April.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the participation rate fell to 66.3%.

At the state level, the lowest unemployment rate is WA with 2.9% unemployed, followed by the ACT at 3.1% and NSW with 3.5% unemployment.

The unemployment rate is the most commonly used indicator for understanding conditions in the labour market.

The labour market is the term used by economists when talking about the supply of labour (from households) and demand for labour (by businesses and other organisations).
