The ASX closed up 44.40 points with the materials sector driving the gains
Of the 50 largest stocks, the most movement has been from Qantas (ASX: QAN) which closed higher by 7.07%, Northern Star Resources (ASX: NST) which finished higher by 4.19% and James Hardie Industries PLC (ASX: JHX) which closed higher by 3.44%.
As the top 50 largest companies comprise almost 60% of the total market, any big changes to their share price may influence the overall market.
The biggest gainer on the ASX at the close was Megado Gold Limited (ASX: MEG) – which finished 77.27% higher – this is a micro cap company.
The biggest loser on the ASX at the close was Sun Resources NL (ASX: SUR) – which was down 50.00% at the close of trade – this is a micro cap company.
